About Me

img_1066Hi, everyone! My name is Sydney and I’m in my last year of uni at NYU Shanghai, but I’ve spent a lot of time on our sister campus, NYU Abu Dhabi. I’ve been fascinated with different languages and different cultures for as long as I can remember. Currently, I “speak” around 6 or 7: English (obviously), Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, German, and Turkish. Although I’ve spent time learning all of these in a classroom setting (except for Turkish), I’m passionate about independent language learning and hope to learn more digital skills to build language learning web communities and applications in the future insha’Allah–particularly for Arabic language since it has incredibly limited online resources at the moment. Prior to any of this though, I hope to build some sort of web-accessible senior project centered around linguistic policies in colonial and post-colonial Africa as well as the impact these policies had on literature and education. Preliminarily, this blog will focus on my preparatory explorations in the digital humanities, but we’ll see where it goes from there.
